This is an engineering procedure used to enable new branch connections to pipeline systems without draining down. We hottap a pipeline via a new branch connection established by either welding or using bolt on tapping saddles depending on pipe material. Drilling is carried out using purpose built drilling machines that can cut holes from 6mm to 300mm diameter on many different pipe materials containing various contents and operating under a wide range of temperatures and pressures.
We tap into mains water, hot water services, plant steam and condense, ammonia, condenser water, natural gas, oils, compressed air, chilled water, pure glycol and others on request.
We have recently developed hot tapping clamps that can be used to tap into existing copper pipework as small as 15mm, this service is proving very popular with hospitals where draining down is a real problem.
This service involves isolation of a short section of pipeline using liquid nitrogen, this will freeze the contents of the pipe allowing whatever modifications to be carried out without the need to drain entire system, we can freeze from 15mm to 300mm diameter on many different pipe materials including copper, low carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel.
We can freeze water with glycol and inhibitors present, pure glycol, chw, lphw, calcium brines, heat transfer fluids, molasses, potable water, effluents, seawater, hydraulic oils, deionised water, heavy and light fuel oils, boiler feed water and others on request.
We can install temperature pockets under live conditions and some probe type flow meters , sensors , this allows clients to intergrate same to their BMS systems to gain efficiencies. This service is proving very popular with energy consultants and facility managers. Hot tapping can also be utilised to take a physical sample of pipework to determine wear and tear and also the effectiviness of anti corrosion treatments.
